With the anticipation among the students highly rising, the Covid-19 pandemic has delayed the proceedings this year. Nonetheless, Education Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank will soon be announcing the dates for the NEET 2021 registration.
This article will help students to understand the requirements, eligibility criteria, application dates and timeline and general information to inform you with all you need to know about NEET 2021 registration process.
As applications can be applied and filled online, the process is quite easy, hassle-free and simple. It is staggering to know that in the last two years, NEET registered over 15 lakhs students with the year 2020 alone saw 15,97, 435 students enrolling for NEET 2020. Therefore, it becomes very necessary to inform our aspiring students with correct and detailed information related to this examination and its registration and application procedure so that the students can prepare accordingly. What Is NEET?
Available for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test is a mandatory prerequisite test every student has to write to pursue a career in Medicine. NEET examination is what ensures admissions into the top medical colleges and universities for MBBS, BDS, Ayush and other medical courses.
NEET UG, formerly known as All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT), is an All-India Pre Medical Entrance Test for students who wish to pursue undergraduate medical (MBBS), dental (BDS) courses in government and private institutions in India as well as abroad. Earlier this exam under the name of AIPMT was conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) but now it is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA)
Likewise, NEET PG is for postgraduate students looking to pursue Masters or Diplomas and is conducted by National Board of Examinations (NBE).
NEET UG is the only examination in India that grants students access to 76,928 MBBS and BDS seats in government and private colleges. Hence, it becomes crucial for the students to prepare well and clear this examination as soon as they can. Therefore, it’s important to the eligibility criteria for NEET UG 2021 before one can apply.
NEET Eligibility Criteria
Every year, since 2018, National Testing Agency has been the conductor and the authority of the NEET exam and lays down the foundation for the eligibility criteria for the aspiring students. The basic structure of the criteria although has been laid down by the Graduate Medical Education in 1997, NTA has amended and removed a lot of restrictions making the examination less stringent in terms of who can apply.
Impositions like age bar, selection of subjects and types of schools have been removed as per the latest Neet update. As NEET 2021 will be the single entrance examination for admissions in MBBS, BDS & and other medical courses including Ayush, the revised eligibility criteria for NEET 2021 has open doors to the students of open schools with Biology as an optional subject as well.
The eligibility criteria specify the clause and the conditions under which a student becomes eligible for his/her application to be considered for the said examination. Criteria and guidelines like Qualifying Exam, Passing Percentage, Nationality, and Number of Attempts etc. are considered to the evaluation of eligibility. No aspirants will be allowed to sit in the NEET exam if they fail to meet the eligibility criteria as established by NTA.

NEET 2021 Exam Codes:
The NEET UG 2021 exam codes describe the qualifying the applicant has passed and hence, must choose the correct code while filling the application form which will be verified during the NEET Counselling as well. Below are the codes with their significance. It is advisable for the students to have a clear understanding about the exam codes before filling out the application form.
The exam codes are listed from 1 to 7 each with different significance and relevant to respective eligible students and one must correctly fill this code while applying for the admission form.
NEET Exam Code 1:
Applicants who have appeared for 12th and are awaiting their result or will be appearing for 12th boards exam must choose Exam Code 1. However, all relevant documents must be submitted for qualifying exams after the announcement of the result before the counselling session and admission process.
NEET Exam Code 2:
Applicants who successfully completed 12 years Higher/Secondary examinations or the Indian School Certificate Examination (ICSE), which is equivalent to 10+2 must choose Exam Code 2. However, in the higher secondary that is in the last two years of the curriculum, a student must have English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, or Mathematics or any other elective subject as prescribed by the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT).
Also, as per the revised eligibility NEET 2021 criteria, students who have completed 10+2 from the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) or state open schools and institutions as a private candidate from state boards with Biology/Biotechnology as an optional subject should also select Exam Code 2.
Applicants who passed 12th or equivalent in the year 2018 and have dropped a year from CBSE/ICSE boards but are looking to appear NEET 2021 should also select Exam Code 2.
NEET Exam Code 3:
Applicants who passed their Intermediate/Pre-Examination degree in Science stream from any recognized Indian University/Board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology with practical tests in the above mentioned subjects must choose Exam Code 3.
NEET Exam Code 4:
Applicants successfully completing pre-professional/pre-medical examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English with practical tests passing from recognized University/Board having completed 10+2 must choose Exam Code 4.
NEET Exam Code 5:
Applicants successfully completing the first year of a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology including the practical tests having completed 10+2 equivalent exams with the above mentioned subjects at a level not less than a core course.
NEET Exam Code 6:
Applicants who completed B.Sc. examination with not less than two subjects including Biology/Biotechnology, Physics and Chemistry must choose Exam Code 6 given that they have completed 10+2 or equivalent.
NEET Exam Code 7:
Applicants who successfully completed any other equivalent Intermediate examinations from recognized boards and universities can opt for Exam Code 7. However, it has to be ensured that the applicant has also completed two years in studying English, Physics,Chemistry & Biology/Biotechnology including the practical tests.
Foreign Students applying for NEET 2021 must also opt for Exam Qualifying Code as 7 with having passed 10+2 or equivalent course as determined by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). If the qualifying exam are marked in grade points, then the corresponding marks are assigned by the AIU.
Once, the candidates know their eligibility status then they can proceed for the NEET registration for the NEET application form 2021.
NEET Registration:
Once NTA NEET announces the start date of registration, the online applications will be made available. Candidates will be asked to register by filling up details like personal academics, choice of NEET exam centres. Also, applicants must upload recent photos, signatures, left hand thumb impression, post card size photograph and passing certificates of 10th and 12th. The NEET registration fee can be paid online via Credit/Debit cards, Net Banking or UPI payment gateway. As per last year, the NEET exam fee was Rs 1500 for Unreserved, Rs 1400 for EWS & NCL OBC candidates and SC/ST/OBC Candidates required to pay Rs 800.
NTA also provides the applicants to rectify or amend all the details through their correction facility which lets the candidates to edit all the registration details submitted.
The registration requires submission of candidates details like name, father’s name, mother’s name as per the existing qualifying documents. Upon submission of these details, one must create a password for securing the account and also for future login. Also, a provisional application number is generated after NEET registration for future login which is to be used as User Id.

Documents and other details required for NEET registration and application:
To keep the registration and application process hassle-free, smooth and easy, it is recommended that applicants keep the below listed documents and details ready beforehand as they will come handy during the process. Also, in doing so, chances of error will be less and application acceptance rate will be increased. It is important to note that since the registration and application process is all online, it is advisable to for the applicants to use a compatible browser for all purposes.
Things to keep ready before registering and applying:
- Active and valid Mobile Number.
- Active and valid Email address.
- All documents including Mark sheets, Transfer Certificates, School Details of Class X and XII
- Correct and documented spellings of all names including Father’s and Mother’s name.
- Aadhaar Number (last four digits only)
- Passport number, Ration Card Number, Bank Account or any other govt. Identity number or card.
- Scanned copies of Images, all documents, passport size photographs, and other documents.
- Credit/Debit Card or Net banking details for payment purposes.

NEET Admit Card 2021:
Admit card for the examination will be made available around 27th March tentatively and will be made available online. The applicants must download and print out the admit card along with other required documents for entry at the exam centre. Candidates whose application are accepted will only receive their admit cards. The card will have details like name, exam details, date, time of the examination, venue, centre, centre code, address, photograph, signature etc.
